Ontario Soccer is excited to unveil the Men’s squad that will represent Team Ontario at the upcoming 2025 Canada Summer Games, taking place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from August 8 to 25, 2025. The Women’s squad will be released next week.

Led by Head Coach Bryan Rosenfeld, Assistant Coach Dave Benning, and Team Manager Jon Mondino, Team Ontario will compete against the top Under-17 players from across the country in one of Canada’s most prestigious multi-sport events. This highly competitive environment serves as a vital step in player development, providing athletes with a unique opportunity to test themselves at a national level.

A Product of the Talented Player Pathway

Many of the selected athletes have progressed through Ontario Soccer’s Provincial Xcel Program, which identifies high-potential players primarily from standards-based environments such as the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) and League1 Ontario (L1ON). Additionally, Talent on Location Day (ToLD) events offer opportunities to uncover talent from outside traditional high-performance streams.

The OPDL, which forms the foundation of the Talented Player Pathway, plays a critical role in preparing athletes for opportunities like the Canada Games. It emphasizes development over results and focuses on long-term growth, both technically and tactically, in line with Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development model (LTPD).

Strong Build-Up to the Games

This year's Canada Games squad builds upon an outstanding 2025 Provincial Xcel season, highlighted by a successful Ontario-Quebec Showcase Series in May. Across 12 matches in four divisions, Team Ontario earned 8 wins, 3 draws, and just 1 loss, signaling the strength and depth of talent across the province.

Players selected for Team Ontario will take part in a Training Camp from August 3–7 at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre, in preparation for the Games.

About the Canada Summer Games

The 2025 Canada Summer Games will host over 3,600 athletes and coaches, feature 19 sports, and involve more than 5,000 volunteers across hundreds of events and cultural festivals in St. John’s.

At the 2022 Canada Summer Games, hosted in Niagara, Team Ontario’s Men’s squad earned Silver, and the program looks to build on that legacy this year.

Niagara Falls Soccer Club – NIAGARA FC OPDL is proud to be part of Ontario Soccer’s player development system and remains committed to preparing young athletes for high-performance opportunities like this. We congratulate all players and team officials selected to represent Team Ontario, and we wish them the very best of luck in St. John’s!
